Save a Life

not in the medical surgery/cure cancer sense but something cooler, like pulling someone out of the way of an out of control car, or shielding someone from an explosion. you know, like people do in the movies where no one actually gets hurt but that sense of danger is there.

I have other things and I’ll think of them as they come to me but this one just popped into my head and I felt the need to write it down

I was going to keep this a secret till i had some better photos but, I just thought you guys should know I’ve been growing the stache out all month for  Movember. Tonight I’m going out to a moustache party where all the proceeds go towards Prostate Cancer research.

So, looking ridiculous for a good cause is totally worth it!

Plus, this is the first time I have ever seriously attempted the stache

I had a dream about playing hockey last night

I guess that isn’t too weird, I mean, I am a canadian male after all. What’s weird about it is the frequency in which I’ve been having them, it’s been close to three years since i’ve put on skates (I just never have the money to join intramural/men’s league teams) and I’ve never wanted to lace up more then I have now. for the past couple years I’ve been content with just watching the pros play(if you can call the Maple Leafs “pros”)

but two weeks ago it happened.

I stepped inside an arena, caught that familliar arena smell (ice and rubber) and it hit me: “holy fuck I miss this”. I watched my roommates suit up and play while I stood behind the bench.  If only I had equipment up here I’d be out there in a second but “coaching” would have to do at that point in time.

Since then however, I’ve been having dreams of being back on the ice, standing in my familliar winger position, doing what I do best: skating and being a playmaker (I have a terrible slapshot, I’ll admit it right now).

I stopped playing in highschool because, well I was one of those asshole skater punks and was too cool for organized sports, possibly the biggest regret of my life to date. Also, all the players on my team got bigger and  (even in grade 12) there I was,  5 foot 11, 130lbs. So you know, being a bit of a late bloomer didn’t help either.

Still, I see some of the competition i’m up against in these leagues and think “jesus, I haven’t been on the ice in three years and I can skate better then that”. I’ve grown into myself, I’m alot less awkward and klutzy, I’m alot less breakable (6’1 180 lbs) and I’m alot more open to learning things now  to better myself as a player (sorry dad, I know you tried for like, 17 years)

So I think when I go home, I’ll be coming back with my sticks and hockey bag. It needs to happen.

Truth is I’m over it, i’m not even mad anymore, if they do anything more then lose i’m plesantly surprised at this point.
